Glossier Wowder Is Here

Good news for all of my Glossier fans out there! It’s LAUNCH DAY! Today, Glossier has dropped the latest in its line of makeup, Wowder. Now, all the marketing talking about “It’s not a powder. It’s Wowder.” is a little cheesy, I’ll admit. However, as a person with combo oily skin, all of Glossier’s products do not work for my skin as they adhere strictly to their “dewy” look (talking about you PM Rich!). SO I’m very excited to try a powder that can possibly control this oil on my face! I currently use the Covergirl Clean Matte Pressed Powder, and I’ll have a comparison review up after I’ve had some time to test it out more thoroughly.

I was always skeptical of loose, translucent type powders because they always look so white in the pan, but Wowder comes in 3 different shades! Plus, Jackie Aina already put up her review of it, so I know this is coins well spent! Wowder costs $22 USD ($27 CAD) by itself for the inevitable restock, BUT you can get a Wowder/Brush combo for $35 USD ($45 CAD) which saves you $7 than if you bought the brush and Wowder separately. If you don’t need another powder (and let’s be honest with ourselves here) but you want to give the brush a go, it is $20 USD ($25 CAD). Now for me, that’s a lot for a brush, and I’ll also be comparing this brush to my Real Techniques powder brush in the near future.

Are you a first time Glossier customer? Well, you’re in luck! Shop with my link and get 20% off and EVERYONE gets free shipping with the Wowder Duo! That’s $28 USD ($36 CAD) for the duo, $17.60 USD ($21.60 CAD) for just the Wowder, and $16 USD ($20 CAD) for just the brush! So what are you waiting on??

Happy shopping!

June Makeup & Skincare Empties 2017

June Makeup & Skincare Empties

A few months ago, I tried examining my spending and beauty habits. While I did spend less money than I normally do, I still found it difficult to completely refrain from purchasing anything. Since then, I’ve made it my goal to finish some of the beauty and skincare products I already have! This month, I have a lot more empties than I normally do, so I figured I do a whole post about it.  Original reviews of the products are linked so you can see how I felt about them when I first got them versus now!

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser

This is my third bottle of this cleanser that I’ve been through, and while it’s very gentle and calming on my skin, especially when my skin is irritated, it doesn’t do much for controlling my natural oils. For this reason, I’m going to experiment with some other cleansers starting with the Biore Baking Soda Foaming Cleanser. I’ll have to do a full review later, but I think that the Biore cleanser is irritating my skin AND not helping my oily skin over the last 3 or so weeks, so it’s probably getting returned soon (READ: Reasons I love Ulta’s return policy).

Glossier Moisturizing Moon Mask

This mask is pretty much my holy grail sleeping mask right now. I like my Julep Night Shift mask for the winter because it’s a bit heavier, but the Moon Mask is just the right consistency. The Glossier Priming Moisturizer Rich is way too heavy and oily for my skin now, in the middle of the summer than it was back in January, and the lavender scent isn’t my favorite thing in the world, but I’m trying to empty it before I break into my new Moon Mask.

Glossier Boy Brow in Black

I’ve already waxed poetic about this stuff time and time again, so I’ll leave the link above, and just letting you know that this is my 8th (I think) bottle of BB, not counting Clear if that’s any indication of how good this stuff is.

Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash

I received this gel in my April ONYX box, bit I think this shower gel wasn’t anything too special. It was moisturizing, but I put lotion on after the shower anyway, so I don’t feel the need to have an overly moisturizing shower gel. I’m more into how stuff smells, so I wasn’t sad when this was gone.

Bath and Body Works Vanilla Bean Noel Body Lotion

This is my favorite scent from BBW that you can currently buy. I know it’s a seasonal Christmas scent, so I tend to buy 2 or 3 bottles during the Semi-Annual Sale, and just use that year round until it’s Christmas time again. Going through any big bottle of lotion is feat so I’m patting myself on the back for this one. That being said, I REALLY wish that they would bring back the Lemon Vanilla scents. If they did, I’d toss this in a heartbeat lol. Your Limoncello fave could NEVER.

& Other Stories Lemon Daydream Body Lotion

This is a sample of lotion I got with my recent & Other Stories purchase that I was finally getting around to using. It was a decent sized packet, and I was able to get both of my legs, feet, and arms with it so that’s good. It also was fairly moisturizing, more like a cream than a lotion, but not a body butter. As mentioned above, I’ve been trying to find a replacement for the BBW Lemon Vanilla ever since it was discontinued, but this is not it. It has more of a dirty, earthy scent mixed in with the lemons. I wouldn’t purchase the full size.

So there you have my June empties! Here’s hoping I have more empties to report on as I slowly declutter my stash. If you want to see more of my empties mini reviews, check out my Instagram, @thechicmachine! Also, don’t forget you can grab any Glossier goodies in this post for 20% off if it’s your first purchase! If not, I’d love for you guys to keep shopping with me, and I appreciate it if you already have! For my American readers, Happy 4th of July. Here’s hoping we make it out of this national clusterf— alive! To everyone else, we’ll be quite and hungover tomorrow! See you soon!

Glossier Invisible Shield Sunscreen SPF 35 First Impressions

Hey y’all! Happy hump day! I’m going to keep this short, sweet, and to the point. I received the Glossier Invisible Shield SPF 35 sunscreen a week ago and I’ve had a chance to test it early and give you the DL on it.

Packaging

The packaging, as with most G products, it very nice. It’s a yellow and white container, which is a refreshing move from the normal millennial pink. The box it comes in is a see through peach which is also a nice summer color. The box is made of the same plastic material that earbuds come in, and I’ve accidentally torn the opening flap. The pump works much better than the Glossier Milky Jelly pump! Equal product for all!

Product

This is a clear, chemical serum sunscreen! It leaves NO white cast whatsoever. Big bonus in the Black Girl Friendly category. It smells like lemons which is a plus because I love citrus scents! It sinks into my skin very quickly (about 10-15 seconds) and a little bit of product goes a long way. The formula dries a little matte, which isn’t my favorite thing, but when I apply makeup after, it’s not a big deal.

Value

This thing is $34. I’m not gonna lie. That’s WAY too much for what it is. There’s only 1 ounce of product, and it’s an average sunscreen at best. Once I use it a little longer, I’ll be able to fully compare it to the Missha sunblock that I’ve already used half a bottle of. That said, I’m not seriously overwhelmed by it. However, if it plants the idea in your head that you should be using sunscreen EVERY DAY, then I guess it’s worth it? But I don’t feel super comfy pushing it on yall because I don’t think it’s as revolutionary as they’re saying it is. It’s all about the exact ingredients you want in your routine I suppose, but I have fairly good skin that isn’t super sensetive, so I’m not very discretionary about many ingredients.

If you decide to purchase, remember that ANYONE can use my link, and not just new shoppers. Everyone gets free shipping at $30 and with the 20% off, the sunscreen comes down to $27.20.

Here are more of my Glossier Reviews!

Glossier Super Serums Update

Hey, all! I’m so happy that it’s finally warming up around here! I decided that now would be a great time to give you an update on the Glossier Super Serums! I’ve had them for almost 6 full months now (My 1st review was after a month!), so I feel like I can speak on the long term results a bit better.

Super Bounce

Super Bounce is now my favorite serum out of the three. It’s a hyaluronic acid serum when aids the skin in looking plump and refreshed right after applying! I already have chubby cheeks, so plumpness isn’t an issue! However, I genuinely feel like my skin has become more moisturized in the last several months than ever! Even when I’m not wearing makeup, I feel like my skin is refreshed and healthy.

Super Pure

In my last post, I noticed a small outbreak of bumps on my face after I started using Super Pure, so I discontinued use. I looked into the ingredients, and this is a Zinc and Niacinamide serum. Niacinamide helps soothe acne and bumps while Zinc helps with sebum (oil) overproduction and cell turnover. What my face likely was going through was a “skin purge”. My glands were pushing all of the nasty stuff out and shortly after I went through the process again, my skin settled! This took about 2 weeks, but you know your skin best, and if you begin getting blemishes in places you normally don’t, it itches or hurts, you should probably stop using it. After a couple months of consistent use, I can say that my acne and bump production has gone from blessedly low to almost nonexistent!

Super Glow

I’ve never really had a problem with dull skin, so I don’t use Super Glow as much as the other two. However, I do believe that my skin looks less dry and more “glowy” when I use it a couple days in a row. Just make sure that when you wear this, you also wear sunscreen! It’s a vitamin C serum when can make skin extra sensitive to the sun’s UV rays! I use Missha’s All Around Safe Block Essence Sun SPF 45 because it has no white cast! But as many of you know, a Glossier SPF is in the works…

Don’t forget you can buy each of the Supers individually for $28 or buy the Super Pack for $65! That’ll get you free shipping, plus you’re saving $19 than if you bought them all individually! And if you’re purchasing Glossier for the 1st time, be sure to use my rep link for 20% off! Thank you to everyone who has shopped with me so far!

Happy Friday!

3 Cool Ways to Wear Clear Lipgloss in 2017

In honor of Glossier rereleasing their Black Tie set lipgloss today, I’m going to show you three fun ways to wear clear lipgloss! In my previous review, you guys know I thought that the clear gloss was a tad bit basic. It’s a late 90s/early 2000s trend that can feel a little lackluster at times. So I took it upon myself to experiment with the gloss and find more ways to wear it! So whether you’re just venturing into the gloss game or are really for some hardcore beauty looks, I’ve got something for you. Let’s get started!

The Jelly Sandwich Style

This gloss style is the one that has been so popular (or unpopular based on your taste) in the past. Just LAYER. IT. ON! The effect is a perfectly 3D glassy look on your lips with mega shine! This is a great way to add some editorial level beauty an everyday makeup look!

Glitter Lipgloss

This gloss style can be a tad bit more advanced so proceed with caution. First, I applied 1-2 layers of the lipgloss to my lips as normal. Then, I took the pointed Shader brush from Julep and NYX’s Face and Body cosmetic glitter in Crystal and applied it as a lip liner! You can leave it that way, or you can add more glitter as you wish. I did a gradient towards the center of my lips so it was more opaque the close to my lip line I got. Then, just clean up the edges with a clean lip liner and some tape!

Layered Over Another Color

This look is pretty simple! Just find another lip color that you love and isn’t already glossy, and apply the gloss over the top! Matte shades are good for this because it’s likely that the gloss won’t mix with the color already on your lips since it’s dry. I layered the gloss over Mac Cosmetic’s Matte Royal!

I hope you all enjoyed those mini tutorials! If you’d like to buy a Glossier Lip Gloss for yourself, remember to shop through my link! First time shoppers get 20% off, and returning customers can use promo code HELLOLA for FREE SHIPPING until 4/11. Keep in mind that these promos cannot be combined!

Stay glossy!

90s Space Spice Makeup Tutorial

This past weekend, I posted this adorable photo on my Instagram (@thechicmachine)! I’d been trying to find new ways to play with my (newly dyed) hair until it grows out long enough to put into one ponytail. I think makeup looks can become a lot more diverse when your hair is put up away from your face because now you have an entire canvas to work with! Today, I’ll be teaching you how to recreate this very 90s look that I like to call “Space Spice” because if I were a Spice Girl, that’s probably the name I’d choose! PS: I swear I didn’t intentionally use all Glossier products, but they’ve worked their way so seamlessly into my routine that it happens sometimes. <3

You’ll Need:

  • Silver Toned Highlighter – I used Glossier Haloscope in Moonstone ($22)
  • Blush (Any Color as long as you look a little flushed) – I used Glossier Cloud Paint, Dusk and Haze mixed together. ($18/1 and $30/2 w/ code 2BLUSH)
  • Brow product of your choice – I used Glossier Boy Brow in Clear ($16)
  • Lipstick that closely matches your blush – I used Glossier Generation G in Jam. ($18)
  • You can also use any foundation/concealer/etc. that you’d like. However, I wanted it to be a fresher look, so I opted out of that and any eye makeup!

    Application

    1. Use whatever you have to start with a clean base! I double cleansed with Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser and Tony Moly’s Peach Punch Sweet Foam Cleanser. I followed up with my Glossier Supers and Priming Moisturizer, and then Missha’s Safe Block SPF 45.
    2. BLUSH FIRST, THEN HIGHLIGHTER. This is especially important if they’re both powder formulas as they’ll be a little harder to blend. Since Haloscope and Cloud Paint are both cream formulas, I applied the Haze/Dusk blend first. Then, I put Moonstone right around my eyes and blended the edges together.
    3. Do your brow thing, girl!!! I put the brows after the highlight because you don’t want it smudging your perfectly fleeked brows, do you? I just throw a swipe of BB Clear through my brows and allow them to dry.
    4. Lastly, swipe your lip color of choice on and BAM, you’re done!

    Bringing Back the 90s!

Here’s the final look! Now you can recreate your own spicy vibes right at home! If you try out this look, post it on IG and tag me! Make sure to check back later this week for another Youtube video! There’s a sneak peek of the content over on my IG, and while you’re there don’t forget to follow!

    Love ya!

Glossier Cloud Paint Review & Swatches for Dark Skin

I love watching red carpet coverage for most of the major awards shows. Not only do I get to see the beautiful dresses, but I also get to glimpse at some of the super cool makeup looks that artists put together. At this year’s Oscars, Glossier decided to debut it’s newest product, a cream blush aptly named Cloud Paint. How dreamy does that sound? The GTeam named the colors, inspired by NYC sunsets,  Beam, a sweet peachy coral, Puff, a bubblegum pink, Dusk, a sandy brown, and Haze (the one I wanted to try the most), a gorgeous raspberry.

Some of my favorite celebs like Taraji P. Henson and Reese Witherspoon sported the shades on the Oscar’s red carpet, and they looked to die for! Each individual makeup artist’s look varied in how they chose to incorporate the blushes into the overall look, but I think they’ll look even more natural as standalone shades.

Image from Into the Gloss; Taraji is wearing Cloud Paint in Dusk

As a Glossier Rep, I got the privilege of trying all 4 shades BEFORE they drop TOMORROW March 2! Below you’ll find your coveted swatches. And if you like them, be sure to shop through my link for 20% off of your purchase and free shipping at $35!

    Pretty Paint!

Glossier cloud paint swatches on dark skin in natural lighting!

    First Impressions?

They are a lot more liquidy than I thought they’d be! In fact, they all squirted out a little upon opening so be careful. They’re very creamy upon application but dry to matte within 30 seconds depending upon how much product you apply. I didn’t notice much of a scent either. The swatches on my arm all came out pretty nicely although I’m a little darker in the face so the faded into my skintone a lot more which was disappointing. I had to layer the color a few times to get a noticable glow, especially on the lighter shades Puff and Dusk. Haze was the standout color, and Beam was surprisingly fun as well although it struck me as more shimmery than the others.

    Bottom Line?

I’m putting one of these babies to an all day test drive to see how long they hold up, but so far I like the formulation, but not necessarily the pigmentation. Glossier has done a good job so far in terms of customer representation, but these blushes seem to have slightly missed the mark.

Again, the release date for these blushes is TOMORROW MARCH 2. I know a couple publications had the release date set for the 6th, but the date was pushed up by the GTeam which means you guys can get your hands on it faster! Make sure you shop with me for 20% off of your order and free shipping on $35!

    Happy Hump Day!
