The new year is fast approaching, and while I’m not the biggest fan of “new year’s resolutions” simply for the fact that people often fall of their respective tracks mid-January, it is nice to have a mental refresh, and the new year is as good as time as any to do so. I believe goals should be intentional with smaller steps to help achieve the overall goal. Below are some of my top goals for 2018 and some of the things I’ll do to work towards them in the new year.
I don’t think that young people should have to live by the college, 9-5, retirement grind for most of their lives. You can start your career whenever you see fit, and I want to start mine young so I can begin financial planning that will allow me to really live my life in the future. For me, that means starting to apply for office positions and internships for credits to boost my resume and put me one step closer to another diploma in my hand. I hope by next fall I’ll have accumulated enough credits through summer school and internships to be a Junior! How rad is that?
This blog is my baby, and I genuinely can’t believe it’s gone on for this long already! I’d like to grow it as a business that provides resources to young women who think like I do, and would like to get the most out of life on their own terms! In 2018, I hope to begin providing accessible workshops to help grow my audience and help them get where they want to go in the new year. I also really want to grow my Pinterest, which provides more meaningful engagement than IG does. In the meantime, you can read more of my latest content here!
New Adult Life
I’ll be 20 next year (!!!) which is absolutely baffling to me. However, I’d like to take some strides in my “new adult” life by moving into a place of my own and decorating it to my heart’s content. This is probably my loftiest goal for the year, but I’ve already begun planning for it financially and logistically, so finger’s crossed! I’ve already got an Amazon wishlist full of movies and books I want on my shelves as soon as I move in, and I’m dreaming of all the dinners I could host. ~le sigh~
My week-long social media detox revealed a lot of things to me. I am not happy constantly swiping, liking, and putting on a pretty face for everyone on the internet. It’s exhausting. And yes, I want to build this blog and my personal brand but not at the cost of my mental health. If that means the IG algorithm bumps me to the bottom because I only posted once today, then so be it. In this new year, I am going to intentionally set aside time for genuine self-care and reflection, NOT just slapping a sheet mask on and calling it a day (although that works sometimes too). I’ve started journaling again which feels good, and I deleted a lot of unnecessary files and apps from my phone which makes me feel more relaxed overall. No more constant scrolling.
