Product Review: Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser & Soothing Face Mist

Here it is, the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The product review to end all product reviews! Milky Jelly Cleanser!!! Two years in the making, this cleanser has been through tons of rounds of testing to create what it has become today. And when Glossier began teasing it across its social media platforms, I was excited to say the least. Then, when I woke up and saw an article on NYLON’s website that announced it had dropped, I stopped everything and used my $40 in store credit to buy it and the Soothing Face Mist. It seemed a bit odd that they were replacing the Soothing Face Mist with MJ for the Phase 1 set instead of beginning a phase 2 set which could have included Boy Brow, but that’s just me. Now onto the actual products.

I had done a lot of reading leading up to the arrival of my Milky Jelly, so I had to say, I had high expectations. It boasts 5 different moisturizers in its formula for maximum moisture. That’s good because sometimes it feels like washing your face can be a bit drying, and it’s nice to not HAVE to put on a moisturizer on afterwards (although I have been religiously using my Glossier Priming Moisturizer with it).  The formula IS just like a milky jelly. It’s heavier than a moisturizer but lighter than a cream. It’s about the same as a good lotion, and it has this weird gray glassy color. Not white enough to be milk, but definitely milky.

The biggest claim I wanted to test was it’s eye making removing technology. I was skeptical because no one wants cleanser in their eye. You just don’t. However, it included poloxamer which is also used in contact lens solution. So eye safety is ago! I wore my Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara (a couple coats worth) to school all day, and then washed with MJ before I went to bed. I was thoroughly impressed! The mascara DID come off, easily and without scrubbing. It’s better than my Almay wipes at least!

The only problem I had with Milky Jelly (and Soothing Face Mist) was the smell! I know they infused both products with rosewater for a subtle scent that wouldn’t irritate the skin, which is great! It just wasn’t for me. Luckily, it doesn’t linger long but boy when it is there…

The Soothing Face Mist is very nice, although it feels a little redundant of the Priming Moisturizer. It is a great midday pick me up, but the bottle size is a tad large for me to want to carry it around all day. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much. A lot of product is a good thing right? πŸ™‚
